It's been quite possibly as much as two years since my last video game review - I don't play games nearly as much and don't have as much interest in reviewing them. However with my blog now focusing on multiple things, you can expect to see video game reviews time to time. (mostly 360, sometimes reviews of games and sometimes demo's)
That said, I was able to spend a decent amount of time on COD: WaW recently and came away impressed. I had wanted to rent this for a while, but finally got the chance to. First let me say that I did not get to play online - I know that's a significant portion. However I played single player and liked it quite a bit.
First off, it's quite apparent the increased quality in graphics. The inclusion of the Japanese side is also a welcome addition, making it US vs. Japan and Russia vs. Germany off and on throughout the campaign. The addition of the Japanese side bring numerous new addition including the fearsome banzai charges and snipers in trees.
Another significant upgrade is the presentation - the very well done screens that show information in a cool looking way, before the start of missions. To give them a boost, with US missions, is Kiefer Sutherland the voice of those as well as a US soldier. With a combination of real-life videos, stats and a basic overview of the batttle - it really helps setup the missions, especially the last few Russian missions where the significance is felt.
Gameplay wise, Call of Duty is Call of Duty. It works well and I can't really complain. At the end of the day COD: WaW is a lot of the same, but it's more than a glorified update and it's worth the price with a very active multiplayer portion.
